Education makes a difference! For the first time in history, the United States has a larger population of college graduates than those without higher education. Does it really make a difference?

Statistics say yes – you’re more likely to be employed in a good job if you have some type of post-secondary education. According to a new report from the Center on Education and the Workforce at Georgetown University, of the 11.6 million jobs created in the last 5 years, 8.4 million went to those with at least a bachelor’s degree.

Even if you have an associate’s degree, it helps. Of those 11.6 million jobs, 3 million went to those with an associate’s degree or some college education.

Those with merely a high school education got the leftovers.

College grads make more money as well. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, someone with a bachelor’s degree made, on average, $1,137 per week in 2015. If you had only a High School diploma, your average weekly wage was $678, nearly half that of the college grad.

So, what’s the fix?

Go back to school.

This is the most obvious solution. However, before making this move, know why you’re going and what degree or credential you hope to earn. If you get this degree, will it really be easy to get a job that pays what you need? Do your homework! Talk with folks that have finished the program you’re looking to get into. If the school won’t put you in touch with alumni, that’s a bad sign. Stay away.

Be very thoughtful about the cost of the school and beware of schools who promise “free money” to attend. If possible, try to pay for school as you go. If you’re employed, and your company has a tuition reimbursement program, use it.

There are also online programs available, including programs from Harvard and Stanford Universities. Even if you only want to take a few specialized courses in accounting, finance, or marketing, this is a good option. Check out the Open Education Database for free or low-cost college courses.

Remember, even some college work increases your chances for a better job with a better wage.

Millions of people are struggling with huge loads of student loan debt because they didn’t understand what they were signing or the wages they could expect after graduation.ja

Don’t make that mistake.

Get more experience and develop additional skills.

For some, additional formal schooling isn’t practical. But that doesn’t discount learning on your own. There are courses you can take at a very low cost or free on the Internet. Check out Career One Stop for career resources and training.

If you prefer an apprenticeship program, check out this Department of Labor resource for available programs and scholarships.

Ask about additional training at your current employer. Many training budgets go unused because individuals don’t ask for additional training. Work with your manager to develop and training program, and do it!

Yes, it does make a difference if you have some education. Keep adding to your skill set to make yourself more marketable and employable.

It seems like most hiring is done online today by way of job boards and social media sites. The next most popular thing is word-of-mouth referrals that will get you a job interview.

Back when you would use the newspaper for job searching, the interview method was pretty straight forward too.  You walked in, introduced yourself and usually chatted with an owner or the manager. Then companies felt the need to get more layers in there such as a HR person. So you might have found yourself interviewing with 3 or 4 people before you were awarded the job or passed on.

And today, it is even more complicated. Because everyone has so much going on today, businesses have found other ways to interview. This means that today’s candidates need to be prepared for whatever interview method or technique comes their way. This doesn’t mean you’re one interview and done either. You may still have to go through several before a decision is made.

Here we’re going to cover a few of the most popular that Clear Choice Staffing Solutions has been a part of or have been told about by our employees. How effective are they? Well, you’d have to ask the loans poor credit employer that uses them:

The Screening Interview

When a company has received a massive amount of applicants, they will use the Screening Interview to eliminate a big part of them. This method of interview is meant to “weed out” the most apparent un-fit for the job at hand and they are often performed by phone. They are very short and focused on the candidate’s basic qualifications.

Actual Phone Interviews

In addition to screening interviews being conducted by phone, some companies actually do the official interview by phone too. This is done when geographical differences are in the way, either on the end of the candidate or the interviewing manager. This type of interview is more detailed and will take longer. Some things you should know about phone interviews:

  1. Be well prepared
  2. Always conduct it on your end in a quiet location with no interruptions
  3. If at all possible, do not use your cell phone to avoid a dropped call
  4. Do not drink or eat, surf the internet or send text messages during the interview

Many times, phone interviews aren’t scheduled. However, if the caller reached you at an inconvenient time, simply ask to reschedule. Don’t try to force it to work, because it probably won’t.

Personal Interviews

Yes, there are still some personal interviews being done and many job seekers feel they 100 guaranteed loans with bad credit have a better chance when they are in a face-to-face interview. You want to make sure your appearance is in interview condition and that your actions are in proper form for an interview.

The Panel Interview

These can be nerve wracking! You will appear before a “committee” made up of different people within the company. Each will have their own set of questions and after you leave, they compare notes. From the business’ standpoint, the Panel Interview is the most efficient way because they get all parties interviewing done at once.

As a candidate, it can be intimidating and you need to be sure to engage and interact with each person on the panel. Ask for each panelist business card and then send each a personal thank you note afterward.  You should have ample about of resumes so that you can offer each panelist a copy.

Full Day Interviews

Some companies will schedule you to interview with a list of people throughout the day in this type of interview. They are usually back to back with a break for lunch. You may even have a lunch interview, which we discuss next. For the candidate, this type of interview is exhausting mentally and physically. It is almost as tiring as the first day on a new job! But you have to keep your game face on with a positive online loans for no credit attitude all day.

The Lunch Interview

Sometimes the interviewing manager will ask to meet you for lunch. This type of interview is meant to be a more casual and comfortable setting because it is unstructured. During this type of interview, you are being evaluated on your manners and social skills. So make sure you bring your best manners with you! And above all, do not order an alcoholic beverage even if the other person does.

The Group Interview

This type of interview is where a company brings in several candidates that have applied for the same job. There is usually just one interviewer who will ask the questions to the group in general. Retail and restaurants use this type of interview when they are looking for candidates that are going to stand out, because chances are, they’ll stand out as an employee too.

The Virtual Interview

Many companies are going this route as an elimination interview. It is called digital interviewing and enables the employer to perform an efficient, fair and structured interview. This type of interview is used when geography is an issue.

No Matter The Interview Method – Always Be Prepared

The multiple interview styles are as various as the jobs you’re applying for and as diverse as the companies themselves are. What you should keep in mind is if you are asked back, then you are getting closer to the decision being made.

You must have a firm understanding of high margins and profit centers. A small business needs to have strong management and the ability to change with business demands.

3). Unique Value Proposition: Having a product or service that is different from others is needed to payday loans payments be a success. Any business needs something that makes it stand out above all others. A business should set the pattern for which all others want to copy.

Must be aware of how much money needs to stay in the kitty for business development and how much you can take without the business suffering.

6). Have An Online Presence: In today’s world, if you don’t have an online presence, you’ll either struggle or worse, fail. More than 80% of today’s consumers research a product or service before making a decision or purchase. You need to be there.

7). Be Nimble To Adjust: Customer loyalty isn’t going to keep you in business. A consumer will jump brands quicker than a squirrel will jump from tree limb to tree limb. Flexibility is the name of the game in today’s business.

 Failure:

1). The Wrong Reason: If a small business is started simply to make money, have more time for the family or simply to be your own boss, the business will fail. You have to have something payday loans richmond va deeper and have a goal.

2). Poor Management: Without any type of business experience or knowledge, success is unlikely to come. A business owner should have some background in finance, hiring, production, purchasing or selling. And realize that the market changes continuously. No matter how well you know a market when you were in sales, it will change and then change again.

3). Lacking Capital: You have to have money to make a business go and that means beyond opening day. You have to have a cushion to not only run the business but to live on personally because there will be lean times ahead.

7). No Plan For Growth: Without a business plan, you don’t have a goal to reach. You need to pay attention to what your competitors are doing, or not doing, and measure their success to yours. Be sure you understand every aspect of what things are costing your business.

In our last online loans in texas blog, we had Part 1 of a 2 part series how to handle an interview when it jumps the track. Anyone that has ever been on a job interview knows that can happen. Like we said, the only nightmare worse is the one where you walked into a school assembly in you pajamas!

Clear Choice Staffing Solutions know this. We’ve all been in that position too.  So we did some research to help those new to the job market (recent graduates and returning to work) on how to get the interview back on track.  Enjoy Part 2 of this series …..

Keep On Smiling: You’re in an interview, so you should be smiling anyway. And when the interview jumps the track, the best thing to do pay day loans michigan is to keep on smiling. Smiling will show your confidence and relax you as well as the interviewer.

Stay Energized and Positive: No matter how far off the track the interview has jumped, don’t let them know you’re concerned, upset or worried. The absolute worst thing you can do is let the interviewer know you’re upset about how things are going. Put your focus on nailing the interviewing, not the mistake and you’ll come out of this alive. Positive thoughts bring positive results.

Don’t Be Afraid To Ask: If you have answered a question and the interview appears to be confused or unsure of the answer, ask them to repeat the question. Then give yourself a moment to gather you thoughts and answer. Or pay day lenders florida if you’re asked a question you’re not sure about, rephrase the question along the lines “Did I formulate a report after the meetings?”

Honesty Is The Best Policy: If there is a question that you don’t have an answer for, be honest with the interviewer. Making up an answer isn’t the right answer. Offer to find the information and get back to them.  Then do it.

Engage The Interviewer: When the interviewer seems to be disinterested or distracted, don’t take it to heart.  Put a different spin on it and ask the interviewer open-ended questions that requires them to answer more than a yes or no. You’re kind of turning the interview around and if this is a novice interviewer, they may appreciate the ‘help”. This instant cash loans in pretoria is the point where a clever and well-timed bit of humor can help liven and relax the conversation.

It Could Be A Signal: Sometimes when an interview has jumped the track and is tanking, it could very well be a signal that you and this position are made for each other. Or it could be an indication of what kind of boss you’d be working for.  Be thankful for the early warning, thank the interviewer for their time and leave with your head held high.

In Conclusion: A job interview can have many variables and they all aren’t within your control. When possible, seize the opportunity to salvage the interview and excited, upbeat and stay focused. And remember … The reset button is you friend.

Any seasoned employee has been there.  Things are going instant creditcard approval right along then the interview jumps the track. Next to walking into a school assembly in your pajamas nightmare, the job interview going south would probably be the next worse nightmare.  We all know that how well you do during the interview process in answering questions is important. Just as important is getting the interview back on track.

Are the questions really tough? Are you having problems getting your thoughts in line before answering?  Or maybe it is just the chemistry between the interviewer and you aren’t mixing well. There can be a dozen reasons why this is happening and it doesn’t matter why. You quickly need to realize where the interview is headed and then get it back as quick and smooth as possible.

Clear Choice Staffing Solutions has found some articles on this subject and offer you the following tips on how to handle the situation if and when (and it probably will) happens to you. Today is part 1 of a 2 part series.

Go Easy On Yourself:  It is common to feel like you’re under the microscope during an interview, (or an instant loans with no credit check inquisition as it has been called by some). Don’t be so hard on yourself though. There is a good chance that you are over-thinking the situation and most likely, you’re doing okay. The most experienced interviewer knows that this is nerve-wracking for the candidate, no matter how confident and qualified they are.

Stay Cool Dude: In an earnest desire to leave a good impression, or request a do-over, some of us become a yakker. Nervous chattering starts rolling out of nowhere and you can’t seem to stop it. BIBO aka Breath In, Breath Out. Stop and breathe in deep, smile and take a moment to collect yourself and your thoughts before you go on to answer the question. This is one of those times that less is more.

Explain and Rephrase:  An interview is a two-way exchange, so if you believe you have misspoke or need to enhance your answer, don’t hesitate to do that. During the interview, it is your opportunity to provide depth to any previous answer, even if the interview has moved on. Simply state that you would like to clarify you answer to the online loans missouri previous question and do it. Body language can be a helpful guide during an interview. The nod for example is permission to go forth and elaborate your answer further. Be cautious not to dig a hole though!

Be Slow To Judge: Believe it or not, you aren’t the only person in an interview under pressure. The person interviewing is too. They are handed the task to find the right candidate and some of us don’t play with a good poker face. Don’t judge by the look on their face how your interview is going. And just like you, they may have a million other things on their mind such as a report deadline or a fight at home that morning.

Listen With Care:  Put your laser-focus on high while being asked questions. If you catch yourself drifting during the interview, concentrate harder. When you drift, you can miss out on some important information if you’re already thinking ahead about the end results of the interview.

To Be Continued ….. check back next week for part 2 of this 2 part series!

Congratulations graduate! All the preparations and efforts have loan me some money paid off. You got a job interview scheduled. Now what? Well of course you want to nail the interview, but you want it to end with a job offer too.

Here at Clear Choice Staffing Solutions, we understand that and so we have done a little research and offer you four steps that can help you not nail the interview, but make you a top contender for the position too:

Do Your Homework: Yes, we understand you just graduated and homework is the last thing you want to do, but alas, you need to. Do a thorough research about the company. You want to be as familiar with this prospective employer as possible so that you can carry on an intelligent contribution to the conversation.

This means you don’t just memorize facts about the organization either. As you do your research, find answers to these questions and use the answers to contribute to the conversation part of the interview:

1). What light does the company view itself?
2). From an employee, what makes the company different from their competition?
3). What make this company known for?
4). Has this company a news subject lately, and if it has, for what?
5). What king of clients, initiatives, products and projects is this company known for?
6). payday loan kansas Look for the culture and values of the company.
7). How large is the company?
8). Find out who the key players are in the company and how their backgrounds fit into the company.

What is the purpose of this research homework? The prospective candidate that appears to have knowledge and base understanding about the company will stand out over the prospective candidate that doesn’t seem to know anything other than there is a job opening.

Verify You Are A Good Fit:  Along with your research homework on the company, do your research on the position and be sure you fit the description the company has. Prior to your interview, line by line, carefully review the job posting and determine how the experience and skills you have will fit the job description. Have any supporting evidence that you meet the requirements and excel at each one.

If you find that you aren’t the perfect fit for every aspect of the position, there’s no need to be alarmed. The goal you want to aim for is to be a strong match that can become that perfect fit.

Dress Rehearsal: The quickest way to Carnegie Hall is to practice, practice, practice and the same holds true instant online approval loans to get the job you want. Practice your interview questions and answers. Once you have and feel like you have it down good, practice again.

By having somebody ask you possible questions and rehearsing your answers, the process will give you a more effective, polished interview. Questions you should be prepared to answer are things like “Tell me about your past where you demonstrated skills that would pertain to this position”. One question that you may be uncomfortable with is your salary expectations. Or why you aren’t at your last job any longer. Instead of hoping the subjects don’t arise, find an answer that you’re comfortable with and tell the truth, then practice it over and over.

Interview Them: Keep in mind that the interview process goes both ways. Just as you should rehearse you answers, have a list of questions rehearsed to ask as well. You should be evaluating the company and the position just you are being evaluated.

By going in with a well-rehearsed list of questions, you’re not only going to be ready to find out what you need and want to know, but you’ll show that you’ve come in prepared.  This alone speaks loudly to interviewers.

Remember the song “School Days”?  “School days, school days. loans until payday Dear old Golden Rule days ‘Reading and ‘riting and ‘rithmetic Taught to the tune of the hick’ry stick“. Well those days are disappearing from America’s education system, if some people have it their way.

The Clear Choice Staffing Solutions blog this month has been focused on college and high school graduates. Are they ready for the workforce? What is the best education avenue for them to take? Maybe vocational training is better for some of them and what happens to those who don’t get a high school diploma?

Today, we’re going to look at Common Core State Standard. What exactly is it and how is that going affect the workplace when the students that are taught that way get to the workforce. If you’re like most people that are reading this blog, you probably only have an ambiguous idea about what Common Core State Standard is. Results from a Gallup Poll indicated that almost two-thirds of American hasn’t even heard about it, much less understand it.

In the early part of 2009, 48 of the states along with the District of Columbia jointly agreed that for children to be ready for college, a new standard in teaching was needed. Thus CCSS (Common Core State Standard) was born.

After receiving input from business leaders, online loans reviews education experts, researchers and teachers, the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers wrote and published the CCSS in 2010.  With the final draft of the CCSS adopted, the California State Board of Education was the first to sign on. As of today, not all states have adopted this new standard.

So What Is Common Core State Standards Anyway?

It is a set of educational standards links all learning to 10 Career and College Readiness Standards that are deemed necessary for students to be successful when they reach college and the workforce. It is also designed to help teachers concentrate on the overall picture, giving them a big picture of how they teach is connected to a student’s past and present academics.

So right away, we can see that the CCSS strand won’t be accomplished in a single year. Many are questioning how well this new standard is going to work because of low test scores from the first states that have implemented the new standards. The AP way of keeping score is going to go away and instead, schools will rely on grade-point average along with teacher recommendations until this new standard gets worked out.

How Is The Workforce Going To Be Affected?

The 100 guaranteed long term loans literary approach to language arts will be replaced with informational text. Those that are in favor of CCSS say this is the type of reading that is used more in the workplace anyway.  And with math, memorizing concepts will be replaced with critical thinking as well as problem-solving skills. Again, something is used in the workplace.

Okay, many of us feel like we’ve done okay with our education. After all, we’ve created, developed and invented many of the things that kids are using today, right? But then when was the last time you used a William Shakespeare piece at work? Or recited the multiplication table while generating a report for accounting?

It is too soon to tell just how well this new education standard is going to do in the workforce. We’ve got to see the kids going into kindergarten through a minimum of 13 years of school and then college before we’ll know. Some of the proponents for CCSS probably won’t even be alive to see if it is a success or not. What we do know, and you’ve had the opportunity to read about here in our blogs this month, that what we’re doing for our kids today isn’t working all that well.

High School and College grads are going to be walking payday loans same day payout across the stage this month and next month. And many will keep on walking right on to the job search, handing out resumes and setting up interviews. So just how important is that resume?

What is on your resume is important nobody is going to argue with that. This is where your education and experience are listed for prospective employers to see. But did you know that the type-style you use is really the first payday loan providers important thing?

Your résumé is that piece of paper where you reflect the best things about yourself and many people use it to express themselves too. And Clear Choice staffing Solutions is here to tell you that isn’t the place to do that.

According to Brian Hoff, an expert that spoke to Bloomberg about resumes advises that Helvetica is the best font for a resume. Why?

“Helvetica is so no-fuss, it doesn’t really lean in one direction or another. It feels professional, lighthearted, payday loans alberta honest,” said Hoff.  “Helvetica is safe. Maybe that’s why it’s more business-y.”  And he’s not the only one that recommends using the Helvetica font.  A creative writer in San Francisco, Matt Luckhurst, prefers Helvetica too.

The Courier type-style is outdated. This one looks as if you got your old high school typewriter out of the closet. And Times New Roman is a lazy font according to experts like Hoff.  You may as well put on your old sweat suit loans with bad credit and no bank account for the interview with that font.  And don’t even think about going with Comic Sans type-style.

However, the results from a study done by Wichita State researchers found that Times New Roman represented positive traits in the job applicant. So while Clear Choice Staffing Solutions sees a mixed message of either Helvetica and Times New Roman as the best resume font, we definitely would say that Comic Sans is a definite no-no.
